Operating Principle: Surface-Based Heat Pipe Technology
The 3D heat diffuser operates on the basis of a two-phase cycle – comparable to a classic heat pipe. A working fluid (e.g., water) evaporates in warmer areas and condenses in cooler zones. This distributes heat efficiently across the surface.
Unlike cylindrical heat pipes, the 3D heat diffuser can absorb heat from any position and dissipate it in a targeted manner elsewhere – without any additional thermal couplers.
Performance example:
A diffuser measuring 56 × 56 × 3 mm transfers up to 130 W at a surface temperature of 70 °C (depending on geometry and installation situation).
Applications
- Local heat removal for power semiconductors, DC/DC converters, hot spots
- Heat spreading under LED modules, sensor surfaces, Peltier elements
- Decoupling of thermal loads in enclosures and heat sink structures
Note: Operation is only possible at temperatures above 0 °C. At temperatures below the working fluid’s freezing point, the evaporation process cannot start. The maximum operating temperature is 150 °C.
Manufacturing & Customization
Manufacturing is carried out in standardized geometries. Special shapes require dedicated dies/tooling, with one-time costs in the five-digit range. Adoption of existing tools is not possible for manufacturing-related reasons.
